Name: Faith Lessesti
Age: 25
Gender: Female
Group: Hero
Homeworld: The Flooded World: 118 AF
Occupation: Pirate, also teaches Flooded World Etiquette at the academy
Face Claim: Fate Series - Mordred
Appearance: Standing at 5’9”, Faith’s body type is fairly unremarkable. She’s not very skinny, nor is she very fat. Her bone structure prevents her from ever being super skinny, but at the same time she doesn’t have particularly noticeable hips, preventing her from having a figure. Her body’s just kind of square. It gives her somewhat of an androgynous appearance. Faith is covered in lean muscle, contributing to her square figure, though it’s not bulky enough to prevent her from looking pretty skinny.
The only thing preventing her from being easily mistaken for a more feminine man is her face. Her features are pretty soft and feminine, with somewhat noticeable cheekbones, but not pretty clearly defined ones. Her chin is small and round, and the rest of her face is equally as soft and symmetrical. Her eyes are a bright green and her hair is shoulder length and blonde. Her hair tends to be tied back into a messy ponytail. Despite how much effort Faith puts into appearance, she’s never been able to tame her frizzy hair, so it doesn't matter how clean she keeps her hair or how often she brushes it, it’s still going to fly in whatever direction it wants to.
It’s clear that she cares about her appearance despite her wilder hair though. She makes a point to wear nice clothes, stand up straight, and walk with an air of cheerful confidence. Her clothing is all tailor made for her, so it fits her perfectly, and she rather likes adding extra decorations and flourish to them. It’s rare that they’re even dirty despite her occupation. Despite how hot her homeworld is, she’s rarely seen without a cape.
Talents: Sailing and Navigation - Important skills given where she lives and what she does. Faith is confident in her ability to sail even without a decent ship or proper tools. Having those just makes it easier.
Botany - She knows a great deal about plants and the effects they have on humans. Finding whole new universes to explore has just given her more plants to learn about, which makes her happy. She thinks they’re pretty interesting.
Cooking - Related to her extensive knowledge of plants, she also has an extensive knowledge of food. It was mostly learned through trial and error, but she enjoys it so it didn’t feel like work. The power of her grilled fish is not to be underestimated.
Making Clothing - Faith is really only any good at making her own clothes because her power lets her cheat, but she does have a sense of style and likes to look nice. Her designs tend to be fitted perfectly for whoever she’s making them for and full of intricate detail. She likes making outfits for other people as much as she does herself. That said, she has absolutely no sewing skill to speak of, she just doesn’t need it.
Calligraphy and Penmanship - Her handwriting is impeccable and she likes taking the time to make it extra fancy. Especially when sending passive-aggressive letters to nobility.
Parkour and Climbing - She’s good at moving around rough terrain without slowing down in the slightest. Even vertical cliffs have a hard time keeping her down, though those tend to be a bit slower to climb.
Lying and Manipulation - Faith can keep a straight face through just about anything. Further, it’s difficult to make her lose her composure, so she can remain polite and cordial no matter how she’s feeling. She understands people well enough that she can try to steer them towards certain decisions and, as long as it’s for their own good, figures it’s probably fine. Technically she’s good at adopting other personas as well, but she doesn’t do this often.
Assassination - The one skill she wished she didn’t have. She knows where to hit people to make them die before she’s even seen and is pretty sneaky. She makes a point of never using it.
First Aid - Faith may not know the human body inside and out, but she has a pretty good idea of how it works. Her skills with plants helps with this, and she’s pretty knowledgeable about how to neutralize poisons.
Personality: Polite and cordial, Faith has a gentle and approachable personality and demeanor. She has boundless love for people and wants to do little more than try to make their lives better. There’s nothing more enjoyable in life than that to her. Most of her time and energy is dedicated to those around her and she seems to have near endless patience for people. Despite that, she’s not naturally talkative and tends to be pretty quiet. To the point that she can often just vanish in a room or seem completely invisible. She’s a great listener, but not always the best at carrying a conversation.
Driven and devoted, much of desire to help others comes from a natural sense of empathy. Seeing people in distress or pain is difficult for her, and simply watching someone struggle is nearly impossible for her. She always has this compulsive need to do something, even if it only ends up annoying the person in question. The other part of her desire to help people, and much of her more selfless nature, comes from not thinking of herself as fully human. Faith doesn’t necessarily deny her humanity or personhood, but she sees herself as less important than everyone else and feels her entire purpose in life is to serve people; that her own needs are somehow less important and if she were to die saving them then that’d be fine. That her purpose in life is to live for others and she has a duty to them, or that she somehow owes them something because they exist. It’s a mentality that she’s been trying to shake, but she hasn’t had much luck.
While she makes a point to be very polite at all times and to be very patient with people, even those that treat her badly, she has her limits. Most people will never see them, but those with a great deal of wealth or political power will often see them very quickly. She has very little tolerance for people that try to push people around or otherwise manipulate them for their own gain, and she considers paying people to do jobs a form of coercion in many cases. While she will still remain polite with them, she will often make a point of sounding overly polite and passive-aggressive with them and rather enjoys pushing their buttons. It’s the only thing that can turn her otherwise completely docile personality into something almost slightly sadistic. She still wouldn’t hurt them, just perhaps steal their money and casually (and politely) point out their faults.
Her main way of dealing with grief or difficult situations is by laughing at them. Over the years, it’s made her sense of humor a bit dark, but she at least tries to keep the offensive humor to herself. Faith does her best to deal with peoples’ troubles and their stories sensitively and with grace, but if they hit too close to home it’s not unusual for her to just burst out laughing without thinking about it. This is normally followed by her covering her mouth with her hands and then apologizing profusely.
She doesn’t like hurting people, whether that be physically or emotionally and tends to shy away from even giving people small cuts and bruises. If she does do something to upset or hurt someone, she feels the need to make up for it somehow, and while she’s very well meaning, she’s not always good at thinking things through often relying on her own intuition on what ‘feels right’ or going with whatever sounds like a good idea at the time. She’s good at learning from her mistakes, but her tendency to dive right into things without thinking too hard has burned her more than once. Conversely, she’s typically willing to ignore slights against her, the exception being the rich and authoritative, which she will use as an excuse to poke at them more.
Faith is uncomfortable with her rising fame and her sudden transition from a lone sneak thief into a full fledged pirate captain. Her personal issues with authority have made it difficult for her to accept that she might have some kind of authority over people herself now and does her best to ignore it. Even bringing it up is enough to make her horribly uncomfortable. She also doesn’t like praise for her actions overall. The occasional compliment is nice, and the insults and shaken fists sent her way by those with power is very nice and validating while also being easy to laugh off, but she has trouble taking genuine compliments. They just embarrass her more than anything. She’s more likely to try to excuse herself quickly, lest her face turn a bright shade of red, rather than listen for too long or to try to seek more of them.
History: Growing up, Faith was sheltered, naive, and willing to believe just about anything. It wasn’t until she realized the fallibility of adults, and authority figures in general, that she went to see the world to understand its state and how to best help the people in it as what she had been doing didn’t seem like the right thing to do anymore. What she found was that those in power were clueless at best and were significantly more likely to be malicious than anyone else. Further, there were people trapped where they were, whether it be a country they didn’t want to live in or a job they didn’t want to do, because of structures put in place by people that would never experience these problems. It might have been easy to tell these people to run or quit their job, but they often feared for their lives and families, whether that be retaliation from their countries leaders or something as simple as not being able to afford food. Displeased with the current state of the world, she tried to think of solutions.
It was strange to think of the world in these terms. What was holding most people back had very little in common with what was holding her back. Their concerns were far more practical than hers, which meant they required a far more practical solution. But how was she supposed to provide that to them? Her own experiences and general nature meant she didn’t mind being poor or hungry, and she was slowly coming to terms with being hated, so she was fully capable of making sacrifices for herself but she was still one person. Thinking about it in those terms made her feel powerless. Those that controlled the laws and social structure already didn’t understand what was really going on and the ones that did typically wanted to keep it that way. She had no way of taking in so many people herself, so what was she supposed to do?
It was a lazy night on her boat. The moon was full, she couldn’t sleep, and the winds were calm enough that she would be able to go to where she wanted to go without much effort. It gave her time to think. Due to a series of rather unfortunate events, she was already a criminal in her home country, which made her more willing to think in directions that never would have occurred to her 5 years ago. Her next destination was a place she was pretty familiar with and still remembered a few of the families that were struggling. On top of that, it was run by a Suidenese governor that made rather uncomfortable advances on her last time she was here and she understood just how manipulative this person was and what he was doing to some of the other women on the island. She also knew he was rich enough that even if she took enough money to completely change some of these peoples’ lives he would barely even notice a dent in his coffers. So she did; used the skills she gained as an assassin to sneak into the manor unseen, grabbed what she wanted before being spotted, and escaped. Distributed it around, then left the island.
Faith left quickly enough that it was difficult to see the effect, but as she started coming across more and more people leaving the homes they hated and moving to the cities they always dreamed of living in, she knew she was making a difference and that only emboldened her further. On the rare occasions she was caught, she made sure to make a show of it before running off. Humor was probably the only thing keeping her sane all these years after all, so being able to laugh at her own misfortune was an important skill to have.
As she grew more bold and more loud, she became more infamous and with that infamy came enemies, but also a following. Some people imitated her, other people sought her out to ask how to help. Faith wasn’t sure how to feel about any of this. The truth was, she hadn’t thought about it that hard and was just doing what she thought was right. For the longest time, that was the advice she gave people, but for some it wasn’t enough. They wanted to follow her and go where she went. Her life had been far more lonely in recent years, so she went along with it as long as they understood she didn’t have the means to take care of them. Of course she would anyway because her nature wouldn’t allow otherwise, but it was still important for them to know in case everything went bad.
She still generally worked alone, having sent her followers to setup a proper base on Riema that could act as a new home for people that needed it. It’d give her the opportunity to help potential trafficking victims or people that just really needed a place to hide. Being a sneak thief meant that having numbers at her back was generally more problematic than helpful after all.
Then everything did go bad. She was out at sea, heading across the open ocean with no islands in sight, the sun beating down on her, when her vision started blurring in and out and she had a killer headache. It was impossible to follow the stars like this, and as time went on, it got harder and harder to move. Faith drifted on the open ocean, her supplies dwindling quickly, not that she could notice in her current state. All she could do was notice strange patterns in the clouds and talk to the voice in her head that her delirious state dreamed up.
She came to her senses about two weeks later, half starved and completely dehydrated. By the time she got back to her acting base on Riema she barely even had the strength to move. But she survived and quickly found out she could do things beyond human comprehension. She was able to put up farms and have food stores that would feed an army with in seconds and that was the point that she became comfortable working with others. She knew she would be able to feed them, give them shelter, and all of the basic necessities no matter how bad things got, so there wasn’t any need to worry anymore. Her following continued to grow and the moment she had enough people to control a reasonably sized ship, she made one.
The ship was created from a single tree, a tree that’s part of the ship itself. Rather than have a flag, she let the tree that rivaled some of the manors she stole from in size act as that. Faith called it The Paradise and the Pirates of Paradise were born. She wasn’t interested in being any kind of authority figure, so she mostly let people do what they want. There were only a couple of ground rules to follow:
1.) No killing under any circumstances. No matter how bad the person is or how many people might die should they live.
2.) Their true targets are not the wealthy people they steal from, it’s the people they give to. No one should act in any kind of revenge or specifically to hurt anyone. Any action that results in genuine harm, not irritation that they lost maybe 1% of their wealth, should not be done, and if it is being done, should cease.
3.) They do not belong to any country, nor do they serve any country. Any country is fair game to attack and any country is fair game to help. There is only one world and there should be no divisions anyway.
4.) Any disputes among the crew should not be solved with violence. Rather, they should pick a game of choice, decide on the stakes before hand, and decide what happens that way. Anyone going back on their word after losing will be met with disapproving stares and possibly ejection from the crew if it’s particularly bad.
She continued doing this until this day, though with her newfound power she stopped being subtle and sneaky about it. She would still frequently break into manors, but now she would always leave a huge basket of food, typically fruit, with a handwritten letter on nice stationary thanking them for their contribution. The basket was large enough to feed them and their family for at least a week, though it rarely matched what she took in value. Her favorite ship targets were the ones that were clearly underfunded where the crew might be at genuine risk of scurvy. She figure it was only fair that she provide the workers with the fruit baskets instead of the owners.
But as her crew started to grow so did her responsibilities and she’s still hiding her head in the sand after that. Authority was bullshit, but if she was slowly becoming some kind of authority what did that make her?
The strange portals appearing in various parts of the world and an invitation the academy was a welcome distraction. She accepted half to avoid mooching off her friends so much (because despite being a successful pirate she was completely broke) and because she was told they might be able to put a portal on her ship and that sounded pretty cool.
Magic Overview: Faith can make plants grow fast enough that she can turn a city block into an overgrown jungle in a matter of minutes. From there, it’s clear she has at least a degree of control over them.
Tools: She keeps some seeds with her, mostly for harmless plants that won’t hurt anyone too much. She’s especially fond of weeds because they grow really fast and a notoriously difficult to kill. For emergencies, she keeps some rose seeds and hallucinogenic plants as well. Faith also keeps a short sword and a few small knives, but she avoids using them because she doesn’t like drawing blood.
