Name: Gregory Marule
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Group: Heroes
Homeworld: The Information Age
Occupation: Phys. Ed. Instructor for the Academy
Face Claim: Black Clover - Yami Sukehiro
Appearance: At 7’4”, 253 lbs., and made almost entirely of muscle, Gregory commonly invokes the description of “wall of meat”. Combined with a tense posture; a crooked, almost flat nose; and the scar running the length of his left cheek, a quick glance is all it takes to determine that the man is a fighter. Closer study reveals a treacherous intelligence in his dark, muted green eyes. He’s covered with multiple other scars, but most prominent are three healed stab wounds: one on his lower abdomen, one adjacent to his heart, and one halfway down his back. He also bears the mark of where a gunshot grazed his left calf, as well as numerous faded cigarette burns along his upper arms. He has two tattoos - a plain sword inked into the palm of his right hand, and a matching shield in his left.
Usually, the man can be found wearing a plain tank top and either sweatpants or, for anything requiring more effort than walking to the store or cafeteria, a worn pair of jeans. On rare occasion, he'll dust off his old police uniform and wear it, often for dramatic effect and only when he's certain it won't be damaged.
Talents:
Cooking: Gregory's introduction to the concept of “continual improvement through practice”, the culinary arts are what led to his drive to become as good as possible at whatever he sets his mind to. Associated with troubling times in his past, though, cooking has become something he does solely out of necessity rather than enjoyment.
Physical Activity: a broad term for a broad spectrum of related subjects, physical exertion with the intent of self improvement is Gregory's second most preferred pastime. There was a reason why he chose to be in charge of physical education as opposed to teaching modern law, and it wasn't his belief of mages being outside the law.
Marksmanship: a necessity back in his days in uniform, Gregory’s hand-eye coordination lent itself well to using a sidearm, which led to trips to the firing range quickly becoming preferred ways to pass the time.
Boasting: anything worth doing, Gregory does well. Anything Gregory doesn't do well clearly isn't worth doing. Being a man of the people, Gregory is graciously willing to help elucidate what qualifies as which category to whoever happens to be within earshot.
Fighting: the ultimate way to gauge who is objectively better in ways that matter, Gregory is fond of resorting to violence in order to settle any disputes. He likes it so much, he's even willing to use violence to cause said disputes. The only true tests of mettle in his eyes are one-on-one, not that he's opposed to joining in on a fray with more participants.
Personality: Gregory was never an easy person to get along with. Single-minded determination to improve and become the best, coupled the arrogance of natural talent, means he easily alienates his peers. This often leads to tensions quickly escalating to outright aggression.
A drive to be the best naturally leads to a desire to prove that one is, in fact, the best. Gregory has this desire in spades. Over the years, his method of choice to establish dominance has changed, but generally it would focus on physical prowess, that being his particular area of expertise. Initially, this was restricted mainly to competitive sports, but gradually it shifted more and more towards fighting as he angered more and more of his classmates.
Before becoming an officer of the law, Gregory had been a strict adherent of the philosophy that might makes right. After spending some time cleaning up the world's messes, though, he's come to understand that might very rarely corresponds with right. More often than not, good people are left desperate and unable to properly care for themselves while the rich and powerful often abused the weak. Fighting against the system he worked for in order to right these wrongs has left him disillusioned with most systems of authority. He doesn't deny their usefulness and necessity, he simply has no faith in the powers backing them. As such, he has no qualms with taking matters into his own hands, often with bloody results.
After developing powers, he's been focused mainly on “teaching”. He's the teacher most likely to abuse rule #6 in order to demonstrate a point to his class, to deal with a problematic student, or just to fill some time. It's not that he dislikes the students or cares about being “respected”. He just believes in trial by fire and if a mage can't handle the pressure, then the pressure needs turned up until they turn into the gleaming diamond that he knows they can be.
Magic Overview: As fights go on, Gregory seems to get stronger while his opponents get weaker. He's also able to channel that ever growing strength into pure energy, manifesting it as focused heat or light. And, to top of the nightmare that is Gregory, he seems to be capable of mimicking the powers of his enemies.
Tools: Gregory commonly carries around a giant slab of sharpened steel that is to a sword what a tree is to a stick. At just longer than 6 ft. and around 2 ft. wide, if it wasn't for Gregory's power constantly strengthening him, it would be far too much for even a man of his physique to lift.
Also, due to the abrupt nature of his departure from police work, he still has the basic tools from that career that occasionally come into use - a pair of handcuffs, a 9mm Glock 19 sidearm, and his badge. Due to the obvious issue of him no longer being on the force, though, his badge sees the least usage of the three.
