Jennifer was dazed and freaked out from the demonstration enough that she didn't notice his pause or that he was getting close again. His hand and the sound of his voice made her jump and yelp. Her eyes were still wide and it made her nearly drop her phone. She fumbled for it so it didn't fall on the ground and break and pulled it back close to her chin. Maintaining eye contact was still completely impossible, and at this point, so was sitting still. The worst part was she still couldn't really run away because he was right there.
"I-I no it's okay!" she shot straight up, her back suddenly straight despite her slouching before. "Th-The person that brought me here showed me stuff! I have a map and everything! S-See?"
She pressed a few buttons on her phone and showed it to him. Jennifer did indeed have a crudely drawn map in her phone. It was nothing but a white background with shaky black lines defining the rooms and barely legible text because she didn't use a type tool to put it in. None of it was to scale, but it was reasonably accurate.
Of course, she had no idea if what she said was true. Hell, she didn't even know if someone showed her around the academy let alone whether or not it was the person that recruited her. For all she knew she could have mapped this place out herself by wandering around randomly and hoping for the best, but he didn't need to know that. It wasn't the point. That did remind her that he said he couldn't tell what she was thinking and that was weird right? So she could say anything and he might believe her? Shakily and quickly, she started standing up, not taking his hand while doing so.
"I-I really need to get to class bye!"
She said it like it was all one word and tried to push past him. Her movements were stiff and robotic, like she forgot her joints could bend. At this point she just wanted to get as far away from him as possible because he was really scary and kept finding ways to make himself even scarier somehow. She didn't even want to see how he managed to make himself scarier than that.
