Hikaru had been watching the actions of mages since she started coming to the academy. What they did, how they did it, how they handled the aftermath, she felt it was important to know all of that. Perhaps if she understood them better she'd be able to figure out how to get them to work together. It would be difficult, but she still wanted to make a difference. To send her own ripples through the mage world and to hopefully minimize the damage they would cause. Most importantly, to maybe undo some of the damage the academy's atmosphere was likely causing.
There was one such student that was proving to be very dangerous. She met him once before and she was concerned about him to put it mildly. Hair trigger temper, complete inability to interact reasonably with others, complete disregard for others, and a level of maturity that even her seven year old sister could match. Needless to say, it was a very dangerous combination and his actions reflected that. Taking over cities, forcing people to do what he wanted, campaigns of intimidation and violence...Hikaru knew she was going to need to step in eventually, she just hadn't figured out how yet. Then she heard about Shanghai.
She wasn't very familiar with the world outside of her little village, but she was somewhat familiar with China. It was hard not to be in her corner of the world given how influential they were. Hearing that one of their big, influential cities was leveled and that thousands died in the blink of an eye meant that she couldn't afford to sit back and think about this anymore. She had to confront him directly. Exactly how she wanted to go about it she wasn't sure yet, but she didn't have the luxury of waiting around anymore. Hikaru knew she had to go in and improvise lest something like this happen again.
When she ended up finding him she wasn't actually looking for him. Hikaru was heading home for the evening and happened to see him in the hall of portals on the way. It caught her off guard enough that she considered waiting for a more opportune moment, but she knew she couldn't do that. Doubly so since he seemed to be scowling and shouting at everyone else in the area if they happened to even look at him. No, she really couldn't wait. With a sigh, she straightened her posture and walked towards him with no hesitation in her step. Unlike the last time they met there was no softness in her movements or in her expression. She looked directly at him, directly into his eyes, with the same kind of expression that a mother might give their child if they caught them reaching into the cookie jar, except she was completely devoid of humor here.
"What are you doing?" she started, no hint of awkwardness in her voice despite how much she hated using these kinds of methods. "What are you hoping to accomplish with all this? Surely you must have at least thought that far ahead."
