Maran groggily opened her eyes, "oh thank God, you're alive." The person standing over her looked like a middle aged man with dark hair dressed like he worked at a hospital, he probably does. The thought crossed her mind as she sat up, "what ah... what the hell was that?" She felt herself being lifted by the collar of her jacket and a resounding smack echoed the empty hall. Maran limply stood there, held up by the man, "you almost died is what happened. Some of this shit is locked away for a good reason." His voice was hard and tense, "Look, I get that you suddenly feel like you can take the world, and maybe you can, but there are some very ancient things that can destroy maybe even the chairman himself if he isn't careful."
A look of realization dawned on the Surge mage, "was that an entity?"
"Aw hell naw. We wouldn't have something like that so easily reached. Or at all." The man glanced into what was left of the room and Maran followed his gaze. The pyramid was broken and the eye was full of sharp blades, "great, we either have a dead djinn, or an angry one on the loose. Not sure which is worse." She looked at him, "djinn? Like 'rub my lamp and get three wishes'?" He looked down at her, "no, more like one wish in exchange for my soul. I'll have to take you to the infirmiry and then we'll have a nice long chat about why fuckong with ancient relics is bad."
Maran was about to acquiesce when a thought struck her, "you said ancient. But magic is only a new thing." She suddenly had a feeling of distrust and grabbed his face, releasing a surge into him and sticking him to the ceiling. She raced to her blades and recovered them before running deeper into the labrynth
that was the restricted area.
