Name: Yume Matsui
Age: 14
Gender: Female
Group: The Isabello Family
Homeworld: The Information Age: 2018 CE
Occupation: Wealthy Debutante
Face Claim: Angel Beats – Kanade Tachibana
Appearance:
Yume could be considered traditionally attractive, if not a little bland. Her natural light blue hair is long and well brushed and looked after, her clothes kept clean, well pressed, and quite evidently expensive from the quality of the fabric. She rarely smiles nor even seems to display any emotion other than a somewhat sleepy distant gaze, which rarely breaks even when things occur around her which would otherwise catch someone’s attention. Upon closer inspection her under eyes appear somewhat darkened, as if she is physically tired though she has attempted to hide this via makeup. Physically Yume is also a little underwhelming, she is fairly short for her age and shows little sign of getting any taller, standing at three feet seven inches tall.
Talents:
Shodo: The art of Calligraphy, or artistic writing. Yume possesses a full set of writing instruments and practices this skill often, resulting in her having quite possibly the best handwriting of anyone in her class. A swift yet controlled motion of the hand produces a single expertly shaped line, repeated until such perfection can be replicated with ease.
Chanoyu: Also known as the Way of Tea, Chanoyu is the practice of the Tea Ceremony, the preparation and presentation of matcha, powdered green tea. Though considered a mundane act the ceremony involves a number of complex traditions and motions, the act of performing them all flawlessly is considered a great sign of respect and kindness.
Ikebana: Flower Arrangement, otherwise known as Way of Flowers. Whilst western flower arrangements focus on their size and vibrant color, Japanese arrangements are considered delicate and beautiful in their simplicity. Most of the time is spent selecting and preparing a single stem to be presented in a minimal narrow vase, and often times used as a centerpiece during Chanoyu.
Kaiseki Ryori: There’s cooking, and then there’s cuisine, Kaiseki Ryori is the latter. A selection of small expertly crafted dishes, served one after another in perfect balance, surely enough to please even the most stubborn houseguest.
Fusui: Otherwise known as Feng Shui, or Wind-Water. Fusui in its origin purports to use Qi, the invisible force of the universe, to harmonize individuals within their surrounding environment. Whether this is true or not the practice of Fusui is proven to enhance mood, as well as an effective and fun way to keep the house clean.
Personality:
Yume is a polite, quiet, well-mannered girl. She is presentably groomed and elegantly dressed at all times, whether in school attire or donning a traditional kimono. She doesn’t tend to involve herself much in her own interests, instead choosing to make herself someone who can support the goals of others, and feels a slight sense of contentedness knowing she has done her best to assist. She speaks in a calm and almost serene and dreamy tone, her Osakan accent clear and well enunciated, which often leads people of other dialects to not even recognize her heritage until it’s mentioned. Despite this however she is quite shy and finds social interactions anxiety inducing for her, especially negative and heated discussions full of hostility, which she finds especially distressing.
In her normal day to day life Yume is known for being somewhat of a daydreaming airhead, often staring off into space lost in her own thoughts rather than listening to the teacher or involving herself in her schoolwork. This means she often fails to hand in her assignments and sometimes fails to show up to class altogether, though she never seems to ever be punished for this. Yume just doesn’t seem to be quite all there at the best of times, as if she’s not even fully sure where she is or what she’s doing. For this reason she is also quite easily lead astray or convinced to do things she wouldn’t otherwise go along with, simply for the sake of appeasing whoever it is who is requesting her assistance.
History:
Yume was born in Osaka, Japan, the middle child of a family of some notoriety. She is the only daughter of Kaito Matsui, Chairman and CEO of Matsui Pharmaceutical Co, a company specializing in the production of over-the-counter drugs that ranks consistently within the top ten lists of Japan’s most profitable businesses. Because of this her early life was one of incredible privilege, as she was never short of anything. She lived in an extremely luxurious apartment at the top of Kitahama, the tallest all-residential building in Japan. She attended the Osaka Seiko Gakuin private school, granting her an extremely sufficient education, and her weekly allowance was more than ten times the amount of the children her age.
As a member of the Matsui family Yume was expected to achieve great things, her earliest memories of which she is certain pertain to herself mostly involved lengthy periods of study and strict tutorship in tradition and cultural arts. She excelled at every class in her privately funded secondary education well beyond the capabilities of her peers, giving her time to focus on the preparations required for taking part in her Genpuku, the coming of age ceremony in which all young debutantes of her social standing took part in, and something she very much dreamed of ever since she could remember. This was however before the year of 2012.
Shortly after Yume’s ninth birthday she was struck deathly ill with a mysterious sickness, the symptoms of which were so severe it was assumed by most doctors that she would surely die. Her father’s access to high class treatments due to his position within the pharmaceutical industry was fortunately enough to keep her alive through the resulting coma, though even then this was considered a medical miracle. To her family’s horror Yume was a shadow of her former self when she finally awoke, rendered in a near paralytic state from which she never truly recovered. Whereas once she had been so full of life she would instead spend her days lying motionless, muttering incoherently to herself as is trapped within the confines of her own mind.
Fortunately for Yume help finally came to her once again through her fathers company's vast network, as news of Yume’s illness became the catalyst for her family’s future dealings with The Isabello Family, of which they had not heard of until very recently but were none the less extremely grateful for their assistance. After tense negotiations a deal was made, in exchange for lucrative business contracts in the Osaka prefecture The Isabello Family would see to it that Yume found the help she needed. It was through this deal that Yume was brought to The Academy, placed under the care of the Isabello Family until deemed fit to return.
Magic Overview:
Due to the nature of Yume’s ability she mostly appears like an entirely normal, if not a little absent minded, young girl. Yet for some reason she just seems capable of knowing things she shouldn’t otherwise be privy to, things that would otherwise be impossible. For example she might take out her phone to answer it seconds before it actually rings, or repeatedly finish other people’s sentences for them before they even know what they’re going to say. In casual conversation she often discloses people’s personal information without realizing what she’s saying should preferably be kept secret. Nothing seems to remain private around her, resulting in a number of people understandably avoiding her, not that she seems to mind, nor notice.
