People thinking you're extremely good at whatever isn't something that would just plain out kill you if you didn't have it. In fact, most would probably say fishing for compliments around you was not a good thing at all. And Wally agreed, especially when he himself knew he looked impressive right now. But seriously, no one have managed to realize just how amazing one person shooting several bullseyes in a row was!? Yes, he was creating the indents in the wood with illusions, and he forgot to reload his gun in the first place and so had to make a bunch of fake gunshot noises to accompany the visual illusions, but no one could tell that!
Wally lowered his gun after "shooting" another scrolling target, eyebrows pulled down, and almost forgetting to add an impact in the red center. Still no attention, everybody else was just kicking, screaming, grappling, dodging, which was all pretty cool, he had to admit. But these people already must have been in this Academy for quite some time, he was assuming. They already proved how powerful they were with their magic, training, everything! He needed some prestige like that, nothing made people respect and follow you, and maybe even wholeheartedly assist you with what you wantlike making great first impressions! Again, he was assuming this, but he haven't been wrong yet with this type of situation. So he just had to be impressive in a eye-catching way... easy!
Wally pretended to reload, just in case someone really was paying close attention to him, then took aim at a dummy a mage was currently beating into a figurative pulp, closing one eye for show. A small, sudden crack would ring out, far louder than the gunshot noises Wally was previously creating for everybody's ears. He knew his revolver could never be that loud, but he doubted anybody else knew that and so, he could comfortably make a fake, but clean looking, hole through the dummy's head, certain that the winching group of mages around him didn't see the illusion's creation.
Trying to get the attention of the mage who no longer could use much of that dummy anymore, Wally put on the widest smile he had, raising the hand that still held the revolver. "Sorry about that! But seriously, you can just train without any challenge? Because I can add some! Really, what about we do a competition or whatever? You know, whoever can hit the target or dummy with whatever you want to use? It'll liven things up way more!" Sure, the challenge was very skewed towards himself, his magic appeared nearly instantly, but he was trying to look good, not make the other mage look good.
