Alias: Lailah of the Emerald Sea
Gender: Female
Group: Tyrants
Homeworld: The Flooded World 118 AF
Occupation: Part-time Explorer, Full-time Goddess
Face Claim: Fire Emblem– Tiki
Appearance: Almost by design, Lailah isn't particularly intimidating. At best, she's only five foot two inches tall and 120 pounds. Her posture is generally too relaxed to actively threaten anyone. The idea of maintaining a serious expression is a foreign concept to her. She wears simple dresses and minimal accessories, in order to give off an impression of being an average, simple woman of indeterminate age. One that happens to have long, pointed ears for some reason.
Talents: Imitation: Born from her love of telling stories, she learned how to mimic various sounds and accents in order to give a more dramatic performance.
Multitasking: Somehow, focusing on one activity at a time is more distracting that doing all the things at once. Even the end result is better when she switches between several jobs.
Public Speaking: Lailah is used to delivering messages to large groups, and doesn’t get intimidated by social situations. She’s practiced several ways of speaking that aim to make the audience respond positively.
Navigation: In her previous occupation, Lailah served as her clan’s guide through the wilderness. Reading maps and plotting the most efficient course of action came naturally to her.
Lock Picking: Her curious nature wouldn’t allow a stupid lock to delay her adventure. So she figured out how to get past certain obstacles discreetly. Her investigating could stop a larger crime from happening, so It’s all good.
Personality: A self-proclaimed “friend to humanity”, Lailah treats total strangers like they are close relatives. She is willing to go to great lengths in order to appear cordial and pleasant in public. She smiles through her frustration until she can casually vent to an unrelated party. The benefits of cooperation are too useful to hold any grudges. A good person would be more forgiving, and there’s no one better than her.
Learning under her sibling's guidance for years has instilled the idea that a leader should remain fairly confident, slow to anger, inspiring—and she attempts to copy his example. She loves to get involved in other people’s business before they even ask for assistance. Any opportunity to show off why her way of thinking is superior is a welcome one, to help prove her advice is worth listening to.
Lailah is a fan of starting debates, in the hopes of pointing out flaws in other people’s line of thinking. By examining their values, she can help them improve quicker. She will readily defend a position she doesn’t believe in with the same determination used for her own ideals. Anything to stay active. It’s rare to find her alone, and she can’t relax when everything is silent.
When there are no external noises to busy her mind, Lailah appears to get distracted easily. By nothing. She’s been caught staring into space, lost in her fantasies until someone else snaps her out of it. These moments are often accompanied by a strong headache. Using magic seems to ease some of the discomfort, or at least put her in a good mood. The sudden rush of power always brings a smile to her face. Fighting brings out this naturally playful side that doesn’t really care about winning. Any chance to use magic is simply practice for the real, long-term goal.
Her people need a competent leader to protect them—a position Lailah humbly accepts. Laws are important for keeping everyone in line, and rebelling against an established system is a big decision. It’s only “when the rules are unfair” that Lailah decides to interfere. The end result is less important then the attempt to help out. As long as she gains new data to make a better plan next time, she wouldn’t lose any sleep over intentionally making someone’s life worse. Anything worth doing is supposed to involve a little sacrifice. Saving a world or two might require destroying a third planet, but that’s life.
Whatever shred of empathy she may possess doesn’t influence her actions. Her own happiness comes before all else. It just happens to be mutually beneficial most of the time.
History: Here’s how the story goes.
One of the clans from Umidjya, known as The Emerald Sea, was in risk of collapsing. The last few years had been full of disagreement. A civil war that tore through the population. The hundred or so that remained couldn’t decide how to move forward. Should they leave the continent and assimilate into one of the other the cultures? Band together with some of the smaller clans and form a unified state? Steal a boat and live on the somewhat more peaceful ocean?
Every plan had its flaws. They couldn’t decide on one proposal that sounded better than the others. For a moment, it almost sounded like the former allies would be starting up another conflict.
They were rescued from this decision making by the arrival of four otherworldly beings. These visitors were able to utilize powers that rivaled the Gods who flooded the world, and were revered as such. They claimed to be here in order to guide those who proved their dedication and survived. The next generation of deities.
One of which being Lailah.
As soon as they finished their demonstration, the largest of the gods warned of an impending battle. One of the clan’s old rivals had awaited the conclusion of the Civil War, in order to conquer the now defenseless territory. But that wouldn’t be happening. Through the combined effort of the gods and their people, the clan would be able to survive. If they wanted to. The gods stated they were perfectly fine with leaving and allowing fate to decide who should—
The clan didn’t waste a second and immediately accepted the offer. Anything to stay in their ancestral land. Lailah and the other gods quickly organized a new chain of command with the four of them at the center. Together, the clan surrounded their opponent and defeated them without losing a single member. Lailah in particular lead a group that circled around the other side’s army and captured their territory. It didn’t take long for the enemy to surrender.
Now there were all sorts of decisions to make about how to manage this new land, what to do with the remaining prisoners, how to actually set up a functional government. During this time of development, the existence of portals leading to other words was discovered. There weren’t any predictions centered around this Academy place, which was taken as a sign of good faith. These foreigners were not a threat to be feared.
In hopes of fostering a better relationship with these potential allies, Lailah decided to serve as a representative of her people. Ideally, each party would get along, and there wouldn’t have to be another war.
She was so tired of fighting.
Magic Overview: Lailah manipulates this green-colored "water" to pacify any opponents. The special properties of the liquid have persuaded a group of followers to aid her in battle. While they work together, even a once mundane human has a chance of standing against a rival mage. She isolates the opponent while the gang beats them up.
Tools: Diamond and Sapphire are a pair of rings that Lailah brings with her everywhere, wearing one on each hand. They occasionally glow white while she is using magic, so they must do something special. Supposedly, playing with them helps her focus.
There's also a water bottle that contains her special green water. She offers some to her teammates after they work up a sweat. Even a mage needs to stay hydrated in order to do their best.
