Name: Yamanoue Hayako
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Group: Hero
Homeworld: The Early Renaissance: 1448 CE
Occupation: Ninja
Face Claim: Kantai Collection - Sendai
Appearance:
5ft 4in, 110 pounds, and thin build. “Quiet” would be the word to sum up Hayako. Her voice is high and airy and she often speaks like she’s trying desperately not to wake a bear sleeping half a meter away. Her gait is light and nearly soundless, and when in a room, she tends to have about as much presence as the chair she’s settled down in. Somewhat contrary to the brightly colored, delicate clothes she favors, she exercises often and is in very good shape for it. While she doesn’t wear much jewelry, the one every day exception is the hair pin holding in the side ponytail of her shoulder-length black hair.
Talents:
Painting: While not skilled by the standards of her peers, drawing and especially painting is a passion of Hayako’s. What freetime she’s had has primarily gone to painting long, delicate landscapes.
Acrobatics: Small, nimble, and quite strong, Hayako is well-suited for backflips and escaping angry teachers by means of going up.
Fashion: While she favors practical clothes out of combat, Hayako takes a very simple and very great joy in finding and wearing clothes she likes. She leans towards soft, silky materials and bright colors, and while she’ll likely always have a bias for the clothing from her home, the more modern styles are quickly growing on her.
Meditation: Paired with high concentration, Hayako enjoys long stretches of quiet focus and takes a small amount of pride in her ability to maintain both for the hours at a time she can. The discipline she finds here applies to many other aspects of her life, from her rigid morning schedule to combat.
Archery: Fine motor skills, high concentration, and lots of practice have made her something of a sharp shooter by most standards, though she doesn’t quite live up to her peers.
Personality:
Hayako is as shy as she is soft-spoken. A general timidness and a bit of a stutter mix with a fear of upsetting or offending anyone to create an inability to look someone in the eye even as they exchange their names and first greetings. She doesn’t want to intrude or bother anyone, and any perceived sense she has done so or otherwise offended them will be quickly followed with a stated apology.
This comes in part from her strong sense of self-sufficiency. Hayako believes strongly in the need to take care of herself - while she knows many things can’t be done alone, fewer things would get done if her allies were too busy taking care of her to get their jobs done. She pushes herself to be strong and shores up any weaknesses she comes across in herself, even if said weakness takes weeks of daily practice, repeating the same motion over and over for hours until she gets it perfectly right. Discipline, patience, and a sense of duty are stuffed into her in spades, and she’ll often be the last to give up, even if it takes her the longest to achieve it.
Given her poor relationship with natural talent, it often does. Hayako has never been naturally “good” at anything, something she knows very well from the hours of practice it takes her to keep up with peers who grasped a skill or ability after just a few times through it. While it’s given her discipline to keep going, it’s also taken a sledge hammer to her sense of self worth. It hasn’t stopped her from trying, but it also hasn’t stopped her from agreeing with even her harshest critics.
More than anything, Hayako wants to protect the common folk. It was the duty given to her by her family, and she has every intention of upholding it, whatever it takes. Following this duty is what’s driven her to practice for hours on end, and is why she’ll always step in to save someone in threat of physical harm. Being useful is a strong goal of hers, and protecting people from evil and harm is her way of doing that.
Magic Overview:
Hayako appears to be able to make herself and other things she touches completely intangible. While she appears like a translucent ghost, attacks whiff through her and she whiffs through walls like neither was there. The sounds she makes while intangible are muffled and quiet, like a television turned down to its lowest volume. Other senses, such as smell, are similarly masked. Primarily used for stealthing, it makes Hayako skilled at infiltration and sneaking past enemy lines and barriers.
