Hikaru found herself disappointed with the academy. She hoped that there would be someone that could help her control her powers, or at least find useful ways to use them, but most of the people involved were younger than her and they didn't seem that much more experienced with magic. A lot of the way the academy was set up made it look like they were more interested in getting the students to fight more than they were actually teaching them and encouraged all sorts of bad behavior because of it. She wasn't sure how much interest she had in staying her, but she realized she had to, at least to some extent. Not because of what the academy offered, but because of her younger sister. The way the academy was set up and her sister's tendency to do anything to make herself feel useful left Hikaru worried.
So, she decided she might as well take a look around the academy and see exactly what they offered. There were a lot of useful things she had to admit. The training areas might get some use from her, but more importantly she could eat for free, potentially have free lodging if she wanted to lessen the burden on her family, and there were some academic subjects she could learn that might have some use. Further, she had a much easier time understanding people than she did before coming to the academy, and it seemed to completely eliminate the language barrier. She still couldn't read, but she might be able to learn eventually, and simply being able to understand the other mages was enough for now.
Today, she decided to take some time to finish exploring the academy, or at least as much as she could. It was a bit hard to navigate sometimes, and she had no desire to explore the restricted areas. She figured they were restricted for a reason and saw no reason to break any of the school rules. It didn't take long for her to come across the library. For the first few seconds, she could only stand there in awe. She couldn't even imagine how long it took to write all these books, let alone make copies of them. It felt like her legs started moving on her own while she looked up the huge shelves filled with books. To the point that she wasn't quite sure where she was moving. It didn't take long for her to collide with one of the bookshelves, knocking several of the books off the shelf and onto her. She rose her arms to protect her head, but still ended up falling to the ground with them as they slid off her arms and shoulders.
Now, Hikaru was sitting in the middle of a pile of fallen books, looking dazed. She rubbed her head and started to right herself, her cheeks turning a bit red because of the mess she created.
