Jennifer tilted her head when the weird person only shook hands with her constructs rather than following them. Most people either listened or started screaming over disembodied hands touching them, but this person seemed neither bothered by them nor desperate enough to escape the city that she was willing to do just about anything. She wasn't sure what to make of it or what to do about it. Settling on gently pulling on the weird woman's wrist to try to urge her into coming to safer areas, she made sure that the rest of the path was clearly marked for her and everyone else.
That gentle pull was short lived as the city was suddenly flooded with fire. If she didn't do something fast this weird lady was going to get completely consumed by the flames. Jennifer quickly spawned about a dozen or so more arms to forcibly drag the woman to the nearest safe place she knew of. It seemed rude, but she didn't have time to think about nicer ways to do this. It was more important that she get out of there. Jennifer herself started running towards the portal, but unfortunately her footwear wasn't exactly good for running. She couldn't say that she was expecting to fight a flying magic monster when she woke up and decided to wear cute heels today.
Her constructs were consumed in an instant. That wouldn't have been too bad, but she stepped wrong and ended up falling on her face and skidding her knees before she made it to the portal. Fortunately, she was close enough that her whole body wasn't completely destroyed, but about half of her was burnt so badly her flesh was barely recognizable as skin. In that moment, it felt like her heart stopped. The world slowed down as she slowly and shakily raised her hand to her face to see what had just happened. Her bracelets had practically melded into her and her sleeve was completely gone. Much of her skin was black and the parts that weren't were a bright red. For awhile she was frozen, her wide eyes started to get clouded by tears.
Unlike most mages, she hadn't experienced the horrors of battle. She stayed out of mage fights so far, focused on making friends, and in the off chance she did get into a confrontation, she was unlikely to remember it for more than a few hours anyway. This was an entirely new experience and dealing with the rigors of battle had been hard enough already. She tried to fight those feelings by staying overly positive while staying out of the battle itself and instead focusing on making sure no one else got hurt, but it was pretty hard to ignore those pent up feelings anymore. Jennifer started sobbing and her fight or flight instinct kicked in, choosing flight. She ran back into the academy and tried to find the closest place she could to hide.
The few constructs not destroyed in the fire were left behind. At least they would pretty obviously mark were the safer spots in the city were, given they weren't immediately destroyed when the entity torched the place.
